Lingua.ly Integrates Powerful Basis Technology To Its Language Platform, Allows Users To Learn Grammar Just By Surfing The Net
Building on a recent $1M funding round from government and private investors, Lingua.ly’s “digital immersion-style” of learning now integrates with Basis Technology to increase accuracy of word definitions and give a more contextualized learning experience.
On April 22, 2015 –Edtech startup Lingua.ly announced the integration of Basis Technology to its popular digital platform as it continues to transform the way we learn languages via digital media. Initially available on Lingua.ly’s Chrome extension, Basis Technology boosts the platform’s three integrated dictionaries, increasing accuracy of word definitions on any webpage and providing users with increased information for a more contextualized learning experience.
With an initial focus on English content, the technology is also available for seven other languages offered by the platform.
For the existing community of learners on Lingua.ly’s Facebook-like news feed, which encourages students to make use of current news events instead of lessons, self-directed language study is now even easier. As users surf the web — regardless of whether they are browsing Twitter, emails, or even Facebook — Lingua.ly encourages them to highlight a word and see its translation, definition and part of speech data.
The new technology also provides the meaning and function of all terms in the original sentence. In this way users can analyze authentic language in context and review vocabulary later using Lingua.ly’s digital flashcards, created for all queried words. Offering this level of language information thanks to cutting-edge Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology is an area in which the Lingua.ly algorithm is already a leading player.
