Basis Technology Announces Chief Scientist To Lead NLP Research and Development

CAMBRIDGE, MA, Feb. 1, 2018 — Basis Technology is pleased to announce that Dr. Kfir Bar has joined the leadership team as Chief Scientist. As Chief Scientist, he will lead the company’s R&D efforts to break new ground in NLP, and revisit existing solutions to add new methods and technologies for yet better outcomes.

“I’ve been a fan of Kfir Bar since we first met nine years ago,” says Basis Technology CEO Carl Hoffman. “He’s a rare individual who combines strong academic credentials with deep experience in entrepreneurship, knowledge extraction, and national security. Kfir is joining a world-class team of developers building the most flexible, high-performing, and trusted platform for multilingual text analytics.”

Kfir has spent the past 18 years working in a wide range of natural language processing disciplines, including statistical machine translation, machine learning, ontologies, and language generation. He built the core technology and managed the R&D team at IntuView, which supports national security and counter-terrorism missions by deducing authorship, sentiment, intent, and other contextual information. Kfir also co-founded Comprendi, which transforms big data into actionable marketing insights.

Kfir maintains academic ties by lecturing at several universities in Israel where he teaches courses in computer science and digital humanities, including NLP, machine translation, and algorithms. He is a member of the academic committee of the undergraduate program for computer science at the College of Management Academic Studies. Kfir will be based out of Basis Technology’s Tel Aviv office.
