INKTOMI SELECTS BASIS TECHNOLOGY FOR JAPANESE TEXT HANDLING IN INKTOMI SEARCH/ENTERPRISE 4.0
— Globalization Leader Helps Enable Fully Functional Japanese Enterprise Search Solution for the World's Second Largest Technology Market —
Cambridge, MA, and Foster City, CA, January 31, 2001—Basis Technology (www.basistech.com), the worlds leading provider of globalization products and services, today announced that Inktomi Corp. (NASDAQ: INKT), developer of scalable Internet infrastructure software, chose its technology to provide Japanese text handling functionality in the latest release of Inktomi® Search/Enterprise, an award-winning search solution for corporate intranets and public websites. Inktomi deployed Basis Technologys Rosette and Japanese Morphological Analyzer (JMA) products to launch a Japanese-language version of Inktomi Search/Enterprise, which is being unveiled at a seminar today in Tokyo.
Increasingly, our enterprise customers require communication and information retrieval on a global scale, said Troy Toman, General Manager, Inktomi Search Solutions Division. Basis Technologys Rosette enabled us to deploy our enterprise search platform in other languages without maintaining multiple versions. The addition of JMAs rich Japanese language capabilities provides customers with the high quality search results people have come to expect from Inktomi.
Inktomi joins a rapidly growing number of software industry leaders that recognize the immediate opportunity for growth in the Asian market, said Carl Hoffman, President and CEO of Basis Technology. Inktomis superior search solutions coupled with our globalization tools will bring a new level of search solutions to Japan, the worlds second largest technology market.
Inktomi Search/Enterprise is designed for public websites, corporate intranets, educational institutions, and government organizations that provide search and content classification of their own content. Inktomi Search/Enterprise is a robust, scalable platform that provides natural language search and topic hierarchy capabilities. It is compatible with the hundreds of file formats found on corporate intranets, extranets, and public sites.
Inktomi Search/Enterprise is leveraging Basis Technologys Rosette, the C++ library for Unicode-enablement. Rosette provides a single platform for handling multiple languages, which means that Inktomi Search/Enterprise is now poised for fast and effective deployment in many of the worlds languages.
The Japanese language functionality of Inktomi Search/Enterprise was developed using Basis Technologys Japanese Morphological Analyzer. The ability to search, sort, and retrieve Japanese text is especially difficult due to the lack of spaces between words and the thousands of individual characters that comprise the language. JMA provides the most accurate and effective means of segmenting Japanese text available today, ensuring that Inktomis search software returns the most relevant matches to every query.
