INKTOMI SELECTS BASIS TECHNOLOGY FOR KOREAN LANGUAGE SUPPORT IN INKTOMI SEARCH/ENTERPRISE 4.0

Cambridge, MA, March 15, 2001—Basis Technology (www.basistech.com), the world’s leading provider of globalization solutions, today announced that Inktomi Corp., developer of scalable Internet infrastructure software, chose Basis Technology’s Korean Morphological Analyzer (KMA) to provide Korean language support in Inktomi® Search/Enterprise 4.0, an award-winning search solution for corporate intranets and public websites. This will be Inktomi’s first Korean language release for this product.

“We are pleased to extend our relationship with Basis Technology to support the expansion of our Asian language capabilities in enterprise search,” said Troy Toman, Vice President and General Manager, Inktomi Search Solutions Division. “Inktomi is committed to providing a global search solution and continues to address the needs of the rapidly growing Korean market with our highly scalable, Web and enterprise search infrastructure technology.”

“According to the Korea Information Society Development Institute, the Korean Internet industry will grow to US $45.36 billion in 2001,” said Steve Cohen, Executive Vice President of Basis Technology. “Inktomi recognizes the importance of reaching this rapidly expanding market, and we are pleased they have chosen our technologies to support their Asian expansion.”

Effectively indexing Korean text requires complex linguistic analysis, as the Korean language is heavily inflected and contains hundreds of grammatical affixes. Basis Technology’s KMA provides the most accurate and effective means of segmenting Korean text available today, ensuring that Inktomi’s search software returns the most relevant matches to every query.

Inktomi Search/Enterprise already leverages Basis Technology’s Rosette, the C++ Library for Unicode, which provides a single platform for handling multiple languages, and its Japanese Morphological Analyzer (JMA), which enables complete Japanese functionality for the most accurate and effective search and retrieval matches in that language.
