Geoscope Map Viewer

Geographic feature finder for Middle Eastern Maps

Based on a tip, an intelligence analyst seeks a place that sounds like “sama” or “samwa.” Typing “sama” into Geoscope Map Viewer returns four possible matches and their locations on a map of Iraq. One of the four is in an area of interest. A few more clicks centers the map on the town and brings up additional area information.

Geoscope Map Viewer is a high-performance, interactive utility designed to support the work of geospatial intelligence in the Arabic-speaking regions of the Middle East.

In addition to features present in conventional map viewers, Geoscope Map Viewer’s patent-pending phonic search technology locates cities, towns and geographic features from names entered in Arabic script or in “approximate English.”

Geoscope Map Viewer comes with a sample collection of high-resolution maps in which geographic features are captioned in Arabic script. Its database (gazetteer) of major geographic features in Iraq renders names authoritatively in Arabic script.

  • Click anywhere on the high-resolution Geoscope Map Viewer map — up to 100 megapixels — to get longitude and latitude coordinates of any point
