Digital Forensics Analyst

Basis Technology is looking for a Digital Forensics Analyst in Northern Virginia. In this position, you will work as part of an energetic and dynamic team to perform forensic examinations on various types of media. If you are looking for a challenge, love to solve puzzles, and can hit the ground running, then this is the job for you.

Responsibilities

  • Perform forensic examinations on hard drives, cell phones, and other storage devices
  • Research and develop new forensic analysis techniques
  • Test and evaluate commercial cell phone and digital forensics tools
  • Prepare and support training programs
  • Define analysis procedures

Qualifications

  • US citizenship and active TS or TS/SCI clearance
  • BA or BS degree desired
  • Two (2) or more years experience with computer forensics or technical exploitation
  • Advanced knowledge of cell phone forensics
  • Programming proficiency preferred
  • Military or intelligence experience is a plus
  • Ability to present technical content to a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Superior written and oral communication

Software Engineer - Cambridge, MA

Basis Technology has an opening for a software engineer to work in our growing and dynamic digital forensics group in Cambridge, MA. In this position, you will join a team that is building a modular and distributed system that automates the analysis of hard drives and large data sets. You will learn how to recover deleted data from devices, build cutting edge technology, and contribute to open source software. If you want to make a difference, are looking for a challenge, and love to “crack the case”, then this is the job for you.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and test analysis modules that fit into existing frameworks
  • Enhance and support open source digital forensics tools such as The Sleuth Kit
  • Reverse engineer file formats to determine how data are stored and can be recovered
  • Evaluate system performance and identify solutions

Qualifications

  • US citizenship with the ability to obtain a US government security clearance
  • Computer Science degree, Engineering degree, or equivalent experience
  • Three to five years of C/C++ experience
  • Experience with databases and search engines preferred
  • Proficiency in other programming languages, such as Java and Python
  • Familiarity with computer security or cryptography
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Software Engineer - Northern Virginia

Basis Technology has an opening for a software engineer to work in our expanding and impressive digital forensics group in Northern Virginia (near Reston, VA). If you want a tremendous opportunity to grow and love a challenge, then please read on!

In this position, you will join a team that researches problems and builds software to implement the solutions. You will be directly supporting investigations, so it’s important to be able to learn quickly and to prototype rapidly. You will learn how to recover deleted data from devices and build cutting edge technology that analyzes that data.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze systems to determine where relevant data are stored
  • Identify software and hardware methods for accessing data
  • Reverse engineer file formats to determine how information is kept
  • Design, develop, and test software tools to locate and extract the data
  • Perform end-to-end processing of digital media using automated systems
  • Develop and support open source digital forensics tools (such as The Sleuth Kit)
  • Plan, scope, estimate and schedule project deliverables

Qualifications

  • US citizenship with the ability to obtain a US government security clearance (active clearance preferred)
  • Computer Science degree, Engineering degree or equivalent experience
  • Three to five years of Python, Java or C/C++ experience
  • Knowledge of computer security or cryptography a plus
