Software Engineer (Digital Forensics)

Basis Technology has an opening for an experienced software engineer fluent in C++ or Java to work in our digital forensics group. In this position, you will help to develop custom and commercial systems that can recover and search large amounts of data from hard drives, cell phones, and other storage devices. You will also be involved with research projects that examine new methods for investigating digital devices.

An ideal candidate for this position has software development experience, the desire to analyze and understand data formats, and the drive to figure out how things work. Experience with digital forensics, data recovery, or reverse engineering is a must. You will be involved with both designing new systems and figuring out how existing systems work.

This is a full-time position, available immediately.

Qualifications

  • US citizenship with the ability to obtain a U.S. government security clearance
  • Computer Science degree or equivalent experience
  • Excellent Java or C++ programming skills
  • Knowledge of other languages such as Perl, python, XML, .NET, C# is a plus
  • Two to five years of software development experience on a variety of platforms
  • Experience with digital forensics, data recovery, or reverse engineering
  • Knowledge of linguistics, natural language processing or computational linguistics is desirable
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Release Engineer

Basis Technology has an opening for an experienced release engineer who will be responsible for software builds and releases of cross platform SDKs and applications, including the design and development of build procedures, issue tracking, source code control, and working with the quality assurance team to ensure shipped software meets organizational standards. The release engineer will manage a small team that maintains the build system’s hardware and software infrastructure. Experience with Continuous Integration Systems and Test Driven development is a major plus. This position requires strong teamwork, communication and time management skills.

This is a full-time position, available immediately.

Essential Job Functions

  • Develop procedures and scripts for builds, packaging, and release archival
  • Develop webtools for tracking code coverage and continuous integration
  • Document all build process related items
  • Manage build environment hardware and software
  • Perform branch management, code syncs and merges
  • Support development team as needed for custom builds

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in a Computer Science discipline with 3-5 years experience, or equivalent
  • Proficient with SVN usage, server administration and branch management
  • Proficient with Python and Bourne shell scripting
  • Fluent with make and cross compilation for Windows, MAC, Linux, Solaris, HP-UX, and AIX platforms
  • Web and CGI development skills a plus
  • Java and C++ knowledge preferred
  • Proficient with Ant, Maven, Hudson, and Sonar
  • Continuous automated build environment experience preferred

Junior Software Engineer

Basis Technology has an opening for a Junior Software Engineer to work in our Development group. In this position, you will join leaders in text analysis to build and enhance linguistic capabilities of our products for document analysis and entity processing. Programming languages used include Python, Java, and C++.

Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science or similar
  • Ability to program in Java or C/C++
  • Knowledge of Python or similar language (e.g., Perl)
  • Able and willing to absorb new information quickly and switch gears easily
  • Speaking, reading and writing ability in languages other than English is desirable
  • Experience in linguistics is a plus
